Today we had a packed boat but the weather was finally calm enough for good diving! There were some interesting finds, including a segment of a candelabrum and what may be two bottles under the sediment! We performed a total of 39 dives today, all tasked with digging. The dig is picking up speed with the help of the Germans and such a large, diverse team.
The extensive digging is giving us new insight into what may be left of the wreck and how the ship may have looked before it sank. We now believe that we are looking atthe lowest deck, still preserved in places with the barrel and their cargo on top, and the hull with its ballast of smooth river stones elsewhere. We don’t know any of this for certain but the speculation makes the diving all that much more exciting. You never know what you’ll find.
